General MLA Guidelines

When citing the Bible from an online source, use the same container guidelines:

  •  Author and/or editor names (if available); last names first. No author name

  • "Article name in quotation marks." ex: "Genesis 1:1."

  • Title of the website, project, or book in italics, ex: Blue Letter Bible,

  • Any version numbers available, including editions, volumes, or issue numbers, ex: New Living Translation,

  • Publisher information, including the publisher name and publishing date, No publisher info.

  • A DOI (digital object identifier) or the URL (uniform resource locator). Include the web address

  • Accessed (day month year). Include the date of access
